Job Description
What does a roofer do? A roofer is a knowledgeable expert on protecting the rooftops of buildings from the negative effects of the environment. He or she installs, repairs or replaces flat roofs, by applying alternate layers of hot asphalt or tar and roofing paper. For sloped roofs the roofer installs, repairs or replaces a water-proof membrane, shingles, shakes or other roofing tiles. A roofer also can install any sheet metal flashings.
He or she is employed by roofing or general contractors or is self-employed.
For trade certification in New Brunswick and PEI, you must:
- have completed grade 12
- completed an apprenticeship program OR have over three years work experience.
